When women appeared on the racing scene, Castelli designers studied how their bodies move on the bike so this Italian company became one of the first to specialize in woman specific cycling apparel. The popularity of cycling was growing fast so Castelli moved forward and designed race clothing for the cycling stars at the beginning of the 20th century. The storm flap at the rear blocks out wind spray. Castelli formed not too long after that first race in 1868. People devised a combination of the right clothing to protect themsleves from the wind and rain while not restricting their movement.
